This is what I call a pleasant surprise to find in the mail! 🙂 When Greg announced that he’d been writing a book, and then that he’d be pre-selling it etc., I jumped at the opportunity to support someone I know who’s following his dreams. To me, that is loving my neighbor. To me, that is how I encourage others to pursue purpose and walk in it, so there was no hesitation. It was a few months ago when I first learned of this endeavor, talked to Greg, and made a small investment in him. As such, life kept going and I honestly kind of forgot that the book should be ready and on its way anytime soon. Needless to say, when opening my mailbox, and finding Remember You’re a Genius to be embedded as the contents of one package, I was excited. This book is a pretty easy & short read. The Four Agreements x Don Miguel Ruiz

Another amazing read! You guys have no idea (actually, by now you might) how much I love books that place some significant journey at their nuclei. This book self-proclaims itself “A Toltec Wisdom Book”, and wisdom it offers indeed! In this book, I love the role of agreements. Further, I love how the pages speak volumes to our lives day-by-day. Don Miguel Ruiz has authored an easy read whose diction is very simplistic, though its composition could easily change the world, if reached and understood. Each of the four agreements seems equally simplistic; the principles, when written, don’t require much but effort to understand and uphold them. If you want to be free, and to actually understand what it means to choose and access that freedom; if you want to live the life you want to live, and love it, I recommend this book without question! The Alchemist x Paulo Coehlo

Everything they’ve said is true!!!!! This book is purely amazing, start to finish! It is a tale of a boy who journeys through life trying to achieve his own “personal legend.” It is a story of perseverance and determination, with the aspect of love that can never be omitted in life’s greatest quests. Paolo Coehlo, in The Alchemist, literally does everything right. I honestly felt like I was there and I was in love every step of our journey through Spain, across the desert, all the way to Egypt. Truly, there are not enough words to put together in the best sentences to accurately convey how much I loved this book. Unlike all of the other “Bookworm” posts I’ve shared, this is a novel. Still it hits on some important stuff we could all use in our daily walks! Happy Reading! ❤

The Gifts of Imperfection x Brene Brown

What I love about this book, The Gifts of Imperfection, is the perspective it takes on living a “wholehearted life”. The author,  Dr. Brene Brown, is a researcher who has studied things such as shame, fear, and vulnerability. That gives her a highly unique perspective on people and how we choose to live, especially as it relates to perfectionism! Using this unique perspective, Dr. Brown shares several points of wisdom (i call them) that teach us to let go of what we’re “supposed” to say, do, or be… and embrace who we are. Now, this doesn’t mean that she fails to encourage us to learn and grow; rather, she challenges us to do so in ways that we desire, that please us, and that don’t come as result of other people’s expectations of us! Boundaries x Drs. Cloud & Townsend

I honestly cannot say enough about this book. I’ve read it twice in three weeks, and some chapters even more. It has and will continue to change my life, forever. I don’t say this lightly. I’ve spent time reading this book for content, reading for understanding, and reading for healing. I have cried, I have laughed, but most of all, I have learned. It seems so simple, Boundaries. It isn’t a term unheard of or taboo; for me, however, it has been an all too cavalier practice. Boundaries, written by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend, has engaged me, cover to cover. It ignited a burning flame in me to take responsibility of who I am that I may truly be an adult, by action, or by lack thereof. If you want long-lasting, meaningful practices to intentionally govern your life, boundaries are a surefire way to start! Happy Reading! ❤

The Happiness of Pursuit x Chris Guillebeau

So this book, The Happiness of Pursuit , I came across after reading Guillebeau’s The Art of Non-Conformity. This one is a bit different. The Happiness of Pursuit encourages quests that are meaningful to an individual. It intertwines encouragement, advice and testimonials in introducing readers to endless questing possibilities. I can honestly say that I struggled to finish this book, not because the content was not good, but I kind of felt I got the point before it was over. Nevertheless, it was a good read. I especially loved its focus on acknowledging purpose in one’s life. Give it a shot. Happy reading!

What to Say When You Talk to Yourself x Shad Helmstetter

This is another book that was recommended to me, and I have to say I LOVED IT! The premise, for me, seemed very similar to that of the law of attraction, so to speak… but deeper. From start to finish, Helmstetter (Dr.) drills in his readers’ heads the importance of thinking good thoughts. The idea that drives this entire work is that your mind will work exactly the way you program it.. and the rest of you will follow. I’ll be honest, I’ve already adopted some of the practices shared, AND I’ve seen changes. There’s no doubt in my mind that as they become habitual, regular parts of my daily life, these changes will last just as long as I do here on earth. Plus, it’s helping me to believe in me and build my confidence. Nothing can stop me! Thanking JC for the referral, I’m paying it forward and recommending it to the rest of you! Happy Reading! 🙂

Steal Like an Artist x Austin Kleon

I’m not completely sure how I came across this book, but I’ve had it for a while now. Though I’d skimmed it a time or two, I never took the time to read it, cover to cover… that was a mistake! It’s a short, easy read, but it’s full with great content! What I love most about “Steal Like an Artist” is its ability to use seemingly contradictory ideas to make meaningful points. Kleon urges readers to be creative in their lives, even if it doesn’t mean being an artist. I love that he uses the notion “There’s nothing new under the sun” as truth first, as it comes from the Bible (Ecclesiastes 1:9)… but in addition, it motivates us to build upon the world around us. If you haven’t noticed, I’m all about the unconventional lifestyle! This books places unconventional thinking right at the center of practicality in a world full of conventional people. Book of the week is one I came across thanks to my creative sister-friend, Diamond. After reading it, I immediately understood why it was so hard to try and separate her from it (I never succeeded, by the way). Cover to cover, it’s all about living unconventionally…  Chris Guillebeau found a way to put all of my racing thoughts into a logical, well respected text that has reached masses. The book challenges us to be self-starters, if we are discontent with the traditional life we are expected to live. The great thing about books is that they leave so much to be inferred. I|you could take this at face value alone, and gain a wealth of insight. There’d be no shame in that. I challenge you, however, to see how “The Art of Non-Conformity” matters to you! You may not want to start a business, but this book still has tons to offer you. Happy Reading!

OH! To speak of conviction! This book was just what I  needed. 25 & Single doesn’t have great appeal. It is often looked down upon, as evidenced by the “when are you going to get married?” and “Who’s your +1?” type of questions I hear all the time. I’ve found myself daydreaming about my future, faceless husband, and our “black*ish” kids playing frisbee in our apparently well-groomed, green fenced in backyard!… Ok, it’s never gone that far until just now… but let’s be real. As a woman, there is pressure to become a wife, to be swept off your feet by a knight in shining Ferragamo cap toes, a Skinny Burberry Tie, and a tailored suit to match.
